Dental Team

The People who make our practice perfect.

The High Street Dental team is one big happy family.

We love to welcome patients old and new, and to make them feel welcome.

The personal service we pride ourselves on is just as important as the high professional standards we aim to deliver every day.

So we invest in continuing professional development and maintain an active programme of training courses
covering all aspects of clinical practice.

In 2008, we were one of the first dental practices in Northern Ireland to be awarded Investors in People status.

In 2009, we achieved the high standards required to join the Denplan Excel accreditation Programme – real recognition of our efforts to develop better patient relationships and experiences.

Meet the Team

Peter Johnston, DentistPeter Johnston, BDS

GDC No: 64773

Peter qualified in 1989 at Dundee University. He then worked in North Wales before returning to Northern Ireland and High Street Dental in 1991, when the practice was run by John Black. Having become a partner in the practice, Peter was delighted to get the opportunity to be joined by longstanding friends and fellow dental professionals on John’s retirement in 2005.

Peter’s aim for the practice is to deliver a friendly, warm welcome and patient-focused care with integrity.

Alison Hall, DentistAlison Hall, BDS

GDC No: 63894

A graduate of Dundee University in 1988, Alison’s experience includes working at Manchester Dental Hospital and general dental practice in Oldham.

Alison returned to Northern Ireland in 1990, working in Newtownards for around 15 years before welcoming the opportunity to join Peter and Sharon in Holywood.

Sharon Newberry, DentistSharon Newberry, BDS

GDC No: 64777

Like her fellow partners, Sharon graduated from the University of Dundee in 1989. Sharon then gained valuable experience in general practice in both Perthshire, Scotland, and Bangor, Northern Ireland.

Sharon shares her partners’ views of delivering a dental service that is family-centric and encourages a lifelong approach to good oral health.

Cherith McWhinneyCherith McWhinney

GDC No: 5098

Cherith qualified originally as a dental nurse from the School of Dentistry in Belfast and after working with a hygienist she was inspired to go back to the Belfast school of Dental Hygiene where she was accepted onto the first course to train in Northern Ireland. She qualified as a hygienist in July 1996 and joined the practice shortly afterwards. We were very happy that Cherith continued with us when we became High Street Dental Practice and with the exception of her two maternity leaves, has continued to deliver quality care and advice to her patients.

When not in work Cherith enjoys life on the farm with her husband and 2 children. She is an animal lover who is regularly called upon to hand rear lambs at home. She also looks out for distressed animals in her neighbourhood and has rescued numerous cats and dogs over the years. Even though she has had at times upwards of 13 cats she assures us she is not a “crazy cat lady”!

Ruth MorrisonRuth Morrison

GDC No: 4631

Ruth qualified from Liverpool Dental Hospital in 1994 and has worked here as a hygienist for 21 years. She loves achieving “the healthy mouth” for all her patients. Ruth enjoys meeting and treating new patients and especially loves the challenge of a nervous patient who then returns in 3 or 6 months having taken on board all the oral hygiene instruction given.

Ruth is currently a member of the British Society of Dental Hygiene/Therapy. She was previously chairperson for 3 years and Council Rep for a year. She found both roles interesting and rewarding. Like all our team she regularly attends courses and lectures to keep abreast of any changes and new techniques in dental hygiene.

When not cleaning teeth, Ruth enjoys spending time with her dog, Ping, (and her husband Ed), keeping fit, playing the piano, calligraphy and flower arranging. She loves to cook, to socialise and discover new restaurants!
